2- Teletransportarse.
3- Crear obstaculos elementales para columnear
4- Crear escudos o subir la defensa
5- Incluso llegar a tener alguna curación
I prefer to combine skills with specialization, that way I can complement both ideas.
Skills:
I like the idea of a mage that combining the elements he/she poses he/she get a much powerful skill. I was thinking, for example, when you launch a water elemental skill the target gets a debuff that means the player is wet, and when you combine that debuff with fire elemental skill the wet debuff disappear and the water evaporate and the player gets a stackable damage over time steam debuff. And combining water with air the enemy becomes frozen or chill. Combining water with lightning, the lightning spell deal more damage or lightning spell become AoE because the floor is wet or the player conduct electricity to another target so the lightning jumps to another enemy.
Considering previous idea I think mage should have skills for every type of element in the game and combine them to get better results. Also, mages must have smart control resources to control the combat being a ranged class that with 2 hits is dead, so he/she must have resources to be able to continue in battle without dying.
Specialization:
Considering skills idea I thing would be better to have a specialization per element or type of damage (DoT or Hit damage).
In terms of roles I think mage should be only DPS, because I see much more viable a witch or necromancer tanking, and a druid and priest healing. Maybe a healer mage could be, with water element spells, but I don't like the idea of a mage tanking.

The Mage class should be very fluid with long-range magic and relatively high damage. accompany yourself with a "Book of Spells or Brumaire" of the famous (Grimoires). In the matter of magic, our thinking is very vast, this question, although we already have a certain notion of what to find in this class, it is very difficult to determine which would be the best, because it can vary in several ways. For example, being differentiated from the others. I support this and other opinions about Mage class, after all it's one of my favorites :) . thanks for listening
When I think about mages, I am a little fed of finding always the top dps of a game, so versatile and made of paper. I would like to see something different like:
-Firstly I would like, of course, the classic mage (I am not going to say more, all we now what I am talking about)
-Secondly I would love to find a kind of mage who could unlock a heavier armour (maybe leather) and who uses very strong spells but with a counterpart: a significantly reduced range. So it could be challenging to know if you play properly, you are going to be a killer, but if not, you are going to die due to a bigger exposition to damage
-Firstly, after having played a lot of different videogames as Lol, I found out that there are two ways of being a healer: a healer who heals, and a healer who do not let you to be damaged; so I think it could me an amazing idea to find a kind of mage healer, not based on healing but in creating magical shields to their allies. You know you cannot heal them, but if you are skilled maybe your party could defeat an entire dungeon without losing 1 point of life
Can't miss elemental magic. I believe a mage can choose between using:
Fire, water, earth, lightning, wind.
Arcane it's cool.
Give a special focus on area spells.
:)
