For today's question, we'll be discussing the Starting Zone of the Human Race.
Big castle and you come right in the middle of a conflict to defend it? A farm where you start to learn the basics? A battlefield, where you wake up after being knocked down in battle?
Let's see how do you imagine to start of your journey as a Human.
I hate when the starting zone starts at the middle of a war or something and you can only do quests for that story.
I prefer the classic world of Warcraft concept of starting in a zone where is not too much danger and the quests are not too related to the main lore quests. Some kind of forest with villages, a field with farms... It depends a little on the humans lore too.
A village should be . It just works as a simple and humble begining so through the entire jorney to remember where you from
Nice topic, I'll suggest something to keep the feeling of being no one, feeling humble, like we are just adventurers not the 999,999,999 chosen ones.
What about a Human training camp, the camp starts to be under attack, and you and the soldiers in training and the veterans manage to defend and repel the attack, just to find that was a distraction because they were attacking the nearest village, then you have to go there and help, and also repel the attack.
The attacked was performed by bandits, nothing related to main story, once at the village they say you can help with some activities, and well you need the gold or your can't negate to help (paladins, Priests, warriors, assassins) the main issue in this Village are the bandits so you have to help to decrease these attacks.
And how the quest starts will depend on your class to keep that feeling of variety:
WARRIOR and ASSASSIN: You are a new recruit already training at the camp, so...
WITCH and MAGE: You will be getting some ingredients for your potions in the forest near the camp, then you hear the noises and decided to take a look, all the enemies are behind you, so you have to run to the camp and fight your way out.
RANGER and DRUID: You will be helping some wounded beast in the forest nearby, when you see all the animals running scared and you decide to see what's happening.
PIRATE and NECROMANCER: You were doing some dirty business with someone at the training camp, getting some forbidden stuff when the conflict starts and the only way to leave alive from there is helping the training camp.
PALADINS and PRIESTS: You were on your way to the village to do some basic religious stuff, preaching or something related, when you find someone hurt that tells you about the training camp, and we'll you are a religious person, you never abandon someone in need of help.
I prefer a simple start, it would be nice to have more active quests, the player would have to talk to the NPCs in some cases would have to gain their trust, something more realistic, and not the old generic quest system of some MMOs, which simply points out where you should go, in many cases the player just follows the map marking, this is what makes me most bored at the beginning of a game.
Another suggestion I make is: instead of simply pointing to the objective, make the player extract information with the NPC, for example, instead of pointing to a location on the map, the NPC says reference points, and other characteristics of the region where o the player must go, and in case the player gets lost he can ask some NPC on the road about the place he wants to visit.
It would be nice if the map doesn't show the player, but there could be magic items or scrolls that allow the player to find out where they are on the map, moreover these items/scrolls would be consumables could only be used X times. Good and that 😊
I keep having this idea that classes have diffrent startin places within the startin zone. Priests and Paladins start their jurney in a monestary and have a short class based quest chain.
Pirates start on a ship in a pirate cove or the harbor.
Witches start in a mysterious cave hidden by illusion magic.
Etc etc

I have it clear, Battlefield! I loved the idea that you have had, a battlefield where you wake up while a healer tells you that the last fight was very bloody but since you are well you should go out and help your teammates. I love the idea!

i I agree with this 100%. I've been playing WoW since shortly after release. Some characters are from before.
A peaceful world. At the beginning there is a short cinematic to bring the story of the folk closer to the player, then the first quest was accepted in a "small" area of few NPC and a harmonious area. With the acceptance of the first quest, the game mechanics were brought closer to the player.
In the vicinity of the player and the first quests you could move around without being attacked by enemies (unless you attacked the respective "monster") and that's exactly what I would like to see again, not like in other MMO's where stress, war and countless menu's, NPS or tasks fly directly around your face, whereby it is not understood or conveyed that you are playing a "unique people with a unique class".
The most important point in the starting area is the game friendliness for new players, it will be hard enough later on...
#EDIT1: and please.. dont force us to any "tutorials". Feel free to create a tutorial for the first character that is created. In the game that is being created here, players will create a lot of characters and no one wants a forced tutorial for subsequent characters.
A simple bar in which the first spell is displayed with the indication with which hotkey this slot can be used is completely sufficient. The option of activating a tutorial as an option in the settings would be welcome.
#EDIT2: I have somewhat missed the point with the previous text. I imagine the starting area of the human being to be bright and open. In a castle, a cathedral or a small village with a few houses. All around a natural area with a farm, agricultural or domestic animals. As "quest animals" e.g. bears, wolves, traitors (also humans)...
