As far as i can understand, a good talent tree system can help to give a sense of progression.
Mihaylov said the dev team plans to give each class 3 specializations based in the holy trinity (tank, DPS and healer). With this information, some suggestions i can give:
-> Your chosen spec will reflect on most of your abilities, but you can customize a bit further with 3 talent trees related to specs (" i'm playing a 'battlemaster' warrior, and for my build, i'm going to invest a few points at the tank tree to be a bit more hardy", for instance)
-> Weapon (and armor?) specialization could be tied to the talent tree system ("after some leveling, you can invest some talent points in two-handed and heavy armor to gain passives and active abilities")
