Due to their immortality, elves have a passion for the finer things in life. They revere nature and the Moon Goddess Elvyn. (Can we really change the goddess's name here? Or did the "elves" get their name from the goddess?) They have a great affinity for the forests they live in, and the shadows of the trees provide them the perfect place to practice both nature magic and their stealthy arts. Long life provides the elves something unique in the form of wisdom. Some have been around since the first war ended and the artisans/warriors/druids take their time perfecting their role within the elven community. There is a small hierarchy leading up to a king or queen, born from the royal bloodline that first helped establish their hold in the ancient Moon Forest. They royals hold great regard to their priests as they are the ones who directly commune with the Moon Goddess herself and hold her guidance to the highest degree. While the practice of arcane magic is not forbidden, it is not actively pursued with the exception of basic light spells that help illuminate their cities and homes.
There are actually 2 separate groups that reside within the community of elves. Those priests and druids who worship the goddess and provide guidance and leadership to the elves and the warriors who protect the forest and its people.
The priests and druids make up only a small portion and hold a great sway in the community, providing teachings along with most celebratory events during the special times of year. The druids are so in tune with nature that they not only provide shelter to those who need their magic but can also sway the elements to their favor in time of need. The Moon Goddess provides them with everything, and she sees all through the eyes of every creature in the forest. Every life is precious, but a balance must be upheld. Creatures that cannot keep within the balance of the forest must not be eradicated, but maintained, so says the goddess.
The other group would be known as those who follow the shadow. While all elves have a natural affinity for being silent when they move, this group have perfected it to an uncanny way. As the warriors, hunters, trackers, and assassins of the elves, they move according to the guidance passed down from the goddess herself. They patrol and maintain the desired balance in the forest, be in beast or man. They hold the firm belief that all elves worship, that life is precious, but they know that fighting in inevitable. The first war was evident of that and so they train their bodies to be ready when the time comes.
