What's up, it's been a time!
Recently I had the opportunity of playing an isometric game that had the next feature:
If you are walking on paviment roads you move at a significantly higher speed than walking on wild terrain like grass, rock, forest, etc, unless you are using a mount.
Environment designers put their hearts to create roads between cities and places that most of the time are just avoided by players.
I thought this can be an excellent feature to add to SoH to impulse players to actually use the roads, maps and signals and explore.
Plus it would match a lot with the active weather system devs want to implement.
So here are some improvements I thought can make a great match;
1. If it's heavy raining, moving through grassy areas should be even more difficult. So players should use the main roads.
2. If it's windy, moving through open areaa should be even more difficult, so players should use Forest and windbreaker areas.
3. If it's really hot, moving through sky open areas should be even more difficult, incentivating the player to use sky covered areas and roads(Just like in V Rising covering you from the sun).
4. If it's really cold moving should be even more difficult, incentivating the player to use paviment roads with torchs and bonfire.
5. Maybe implementing a warm-cold protection system depending of the armor but I think that would take away the dynamism
6. Depending of the type of mount, you can move faster on one or another terrain, just move faster or slower (not special skills like G2W).
Example:
Horses are faster on paviment towns and roads, and on open short grassy areas, but slower on forests.
Mammoths are faster on snowy areas but slower on forests and jungle. Inmune to windy weather or something similar.
Wolves can have no speed penalizations, but also no bonus.
Tigers can move faster on tree areas but slower on paviment.
Etc.
I think it would be worth considering it at least.
Thanks for reading!

Having to switch to a Bear for example to travel fast in the snowy mountains is awesome.
And with this type of system, you won't just have a million mounts in your stable and use only one that you like, you will have to utilize most of them.
