Where should the Dwarfs start their journey?
In the deep dark heart of a mountain? In a blacksmith, creating your first Axe? Why not, high in the mountains in a camp?
Tell us what should the starting zone be and look like, in your opinion.
Maybe the Dwarves can start at mining tunnels near a mining camp, far from their main city, the mining tunnel collapses and you and your friends have to find your way out.
Maybe you can be captured to be a hard work slave and you and the others have to escape from your captors back to your camp.
Maybe building a new fortress up in the mountains and an accident occurs and you have to save your companions in your first day of work.
Maybe at a minor Dwarven village forge and you have to fix some machines and devices so the forge can continue working.

I think they should start in a small village, near a bigger city. This way when they finish the starting part of the game they could go there for content of higher level.
Suggestion: The main city could be in the crater of an inactive volcano, the volcano walls would be like a defensive city wall, a real natural fortress.
The beginning of the campaign might be something like fighting goblins who are trying to take over the mountain, something li like what happens in the warhammer.
I would like to find that their main enemies are chaos/infernal dwarves, so I think it could be awesome to start in the middle of a civil war between dwarfs and chaos dwarfs and having as a starter zone, a big dwarf city that is being the battlefield of the war. It could be great to (for breaking the classic scheme of dwarfs=city under a mountain) end this starting area quests, running away because dwarfs are losing the war agains their evil cousins, and finding that the city of dwarves is like a refugees city. It is like if in The Lord of The Rings, the dwarfs that run away from Erebor establish their capital in the city of Dale.
I imagine this area like starting zones are made in world of warcraft in which the first 5 levels you learn how to use your character in a sub area into a bigger starting zone. This sub area could be that dwarf city that is being sieged by a faction of evil dwarfs, and when you reach the level 5 is when you run away because the city is lost and you go out to the bigger starting zone, where you can find that new and temporal city for refugee dwarves, and the quests could be based on finding resources to this settlement.
