EN That would be great! It occurs to me that they could share belongings with a bank / common storage chests that you can only link to another character (another person's account)
I WANT A PALACE
Hello friends!
I've read the points raised here and I can give just a few ideas when it comes to housing. I've seen almost all iterations of housing and believe I have an idea on how this can be impremented without distracting from feeling accomplished and making it accessible.
I want to first iterate about 4 housing systems I've seen so far: 1) Overworld housing (ArcheAge), 2) Instanced Housing (ESO, SWTOR, FF, Rift, WoW garrisons to an extent), 3) Ward Housing (LOTRO, FF) and 4) Guild Housing (FF, SWTOR, Rift)
Each of the above has their own strengths and drawbacks. Overworld and Ward housing have a tied sense of accomplishment, a strong incentive to keep housing like your trophy and pride as a player, it is a true 'endgame' in of tiself to gain, improve and maintain if there are limtied spots. Instanced housing and guild housing is very personal, very accessible but not very rewarding since you are more or less just there without any other surroundings. Often this type is the type that puts emphasys on house customizability and environmental beauty. Lastly, Ward Housing is a mix of instanced houses that exist in an overworld instanced shard, these combine the strength of both mentioned earlier.
IMO there would need to be 3 tiers of housing in order to both cater to accessibility (which gives all player reasons and chances to engage with the system) and as well to exclusivity (such as the true achievers) without compromising on the experience.
Tier 1 would be the Exclusive Housing. Limited overworld if devs wants to enable overworld housing, or alternative limited numbers of achievement wards. Here reside the most dedicated of players that earned their houses and spots in the game's history, with a unique ward layout and exterior looks to houses. This is the sort of stuff aspiring achievers dream to attain.
Tier 2 would be the Public Wards. Large number/no limit of wards with 1 or 2 layouts that are meant to be quite a bit to achieve before getting (not just 'hundreds of thousands' of gold to gain, but also some achievements that you'd need to work towards a good bit) but are otherwise available to dedicated players that will put in the effort and finances earned to get one. This would make it possible for you and your friends to own houses and not feel left behind even if you are not a top% achiever/raider/pvp-er and gives you a reason to keep unlocking new stuff for. A limit of 1 per character would be ideal so that you're not buying out a whole ward-full fo sizes and location combos.
Lastly Tier 3 are Instanced Houses. No limit, this is account-bound as a small 'appartment' or dwelling that you can gain 1/4th of your way through levels and feel an initial attachment to. Your own lil' room or penthouse at the local inn that you can have to both engage with the housing system and as well not feel left behind compared to the community all that much. Some people can be very creative with limited spaces!
That is at least my personal and ideal way housing would be sliced to satisfy every player type and leave nobody behind. Any additional ideas are welcomed if you feel something I said here could do better!
