I think you don't understand, or don't want to understand. A rating system will not dictate to any player.
No player is told how to play. Everyone can play, do and leave what they want.
However, if other players feel attacked or are constantly being farmed by much stronger players, it is simply unsportsmanlike conduct. How would you like it if 5 max lvl players farmed you and then made fun of you? Or how would you like it if you just want to play a few dungeons after work and someone keeps leaving the dungeon because it's not fast enough or whatever?
What is your opinion on players who will insult more often?
I read a slight toxic mentality from your text. A rating system is of course a red flag for toxic players and they will always try to make it suit them. Be friendly, helpful, don't insult your fellow players, don't flame, if the dungeon doesn't go according to plan, stay calm and help your group. If none of this is for you, then find a group or guild that suits you and everyone will be happy. But if you run with other players outside your group or guild, you should know how to behave.
Another little fun fact, if Blizzard wasn't so money hungry and the GM's were doing their job 65% would be permabanned in WoW.
In Final Fantasy 14 there are GM's who stand around randomly in the world and read along. As soon as someone becomes abusive or makes toxic statements, you are teleported and end up in the GM prison, so to speak, and you have to tell them why you made these statements and you are warned.
In addition, there are many games that have simply been ruined by trolls and toxic players. Even World of Warcraft has already lost several million players. No matter who you ask, the answer is: it's become far too toxic, it's no fun anymore.
How can you possibly defend people rating other peoples gameplay? Seriously, who do you think you are that you think YOU can judge another and put a value on them? The very thought disgusts me.
You are ABSOLUTELY telling people how to play by rating them. Without a positive rating how does a player find groups? They are FORCED to play a certain way (YOUR WAY) in order to play a game THEY want to play or paid for. You can't possibly defend this or...twist it into something positive. It's sick.
Again...you shoot out arbitrary percentages in reference to WoW like you know something everyone doesn't. I was there on day 1 for WoW. I can tell you with absolute surety you have little understanding of the actual numbers Blizzard does...for anything. Yet you call it a "fun fact"? I find it highly amusing that you blame "toxic" players for WoW losing millions of players and not the disgusting behavior of Blizzard/Activision's employees and their policies over the past decade. You're either very young or very misinformed about WoW and Blizzard.
There's are a ton of reasons many people do not play Final Fantasy 14. One of the major ones is their abhorrent game policies, including the one you mentioned. It's Sony. It sickens me that anyone can actually defend Sony's behavior towards their customers. FF14 shouldn't even qualify as an MMO due to how much they limit player interaction. Same goes for WoW today.
I suggest you do some actual research before throwing out opinions as facts. Everything I've stated is OPINION. I admit that. I don't try to convince people with arbitrary numbers that have no meaning. What I do have is a massive amount of knowledge and experience starting from the dawn of the internet and online gaming itself. So please...continue to make things up. It only makes my argument look stronger.
It's obvious this conversation has become "toxic" as I will never agree with you so in your mind...I'm "toxic". Different opinions, ideas, gameplay, WORDS or lives aren't "toxic", but the people that can't handle them just may be...
I hope you realize someday...the censors and thought police will eventually come for you too. Good luck, when it happens.

And that's exactly the point, as you write players with a bad rating don't find a group. Then you have to behave like an adult player, not be toxic, be helpful and then you won't get a bad rating. Only the player himself is to blame for his behaviour. Then they have to earn a good rating, as you said, it's an MMO, a multiplayer game. Then the player has to write to the people and say: I made some mistakes but I'll do it better in the future and everything is ok.
And your last sentence just confirms that I'm right and that you have a toxic streak, without attacking you now. Of course there are players who don't like such a rating system, but they know exactly why, because they are used to flaming, ganking and being toxic. No developer has really stood up to it yet.
I mean, I'd rather have 55,000 players who are loyal to the game and support it than 25,000 toxic players who ruin the game for others.

Again...who defines "Toxic"? Who defines "adult"?
Hopefully not you.
Hopefully not anyone...ever. The ruleset and abilities BUILT INTO the game should define what players are able to do or not do. Not some asinine voting system with mob rule, not some Code of Conduct written by lawyers, and sure as hell not a bunch of online keyboard warriors that can't handle WORDS whining incessantly online and in-game about every imagined slight.
Seriously, if you can't handle playing with other people, or people that play differently than you, there are a TON of great single player RPG's out there. Maybe then you can have fun playing with all the NPC's you're trying to force fellow players into being.
Me? I'll take real players with real words, in a game that doesn't censor every time. That's being an adult. Adults can handle words and work/play with different types of people. It's called growing up and being mature.
