I prefer to play Lonely on a pve server, than to play on a pvp server
It will need to be well implemented, but in general i just say YES, World PVP is a must!!! (rated and instanced PVP also, but this is a World PVP topic).
There are lots of possibilities to promote it, with quest/rewards both on daily and weekly basis (integrating City assaults for example as a weekly goal could be good)

Algunos se preguntaran porque pronpongo esto, la respuesta es simple: los enemigos no necesariamente tienen que ser los de la facción contraria.
Otras sugerencia:
Cuando matas a un jugador de la facción contraria, tenga la probabilidad de drop de un item suyo (0,05% por ejemplo), eso le daria un insentivo al pvp.

Maybe that would be good to drop items in "specific zones" and quest items can be undroppable. There was a system that allowed you to bound for example 8/15 of your main gear to prevent that drop. I think it can be considered.

I just discovered the game and I was liking everything I was seeing, until I got here.
I started a long time ago playing Ultima Online, I loved the crafting system so complete and home, search for creatures to kill, navigate... it was a huge world; but I didn't like the forced pvp; there are always "funny" people that attack you even without loot on you, I ended up leaving the game.
Some time later I tried Aion, until at a certain level you enter directly to the pvp world, and again those "funny" people killing you when what you like is to play everything but that; I understand that it is fun for those who like pvp, but for those who don't, it is not, it is frustrating and you end up leaving the game.
For my part, and I'm sure for many others, if this game is going to force you to play in a pvp world, I won't play; I would love for them to find a way to make it so that the many pve players can play too, without annoying those who do like it.
We will continue to see which way the game goes.

Entiendo puede ser frustrante que te campeen a cada rato, o que justo te conectas un rato, y lo queres dedicar a hacer quest, farmear, o lo que sea, y tenes gente de la faccion contraria matandote a cada rato!! pero hay que hacerse valer!! Hay que hacerse respetar!!
Nose si alguna vez jugaste wow, pero.. que lindo era cuando andabas por vega de tuercespina, y te venian a matar, y te tomabas revancha formando un grupo con amigos, o incluso con gente aleatoria!! Eso si que era adrenalina pura!! Que no se pierda eso tan lindo por gente que quiere jugar "Tranquilo"
