It should also be noted that in the case of Vanilla WoW players were not marked for PvP in the starting zones UNLESS they engaged in PvP first.
Read the above post for reference.
I think it's a bad approach by the devs to design the game by opening this topic and then doing what the majority wants. What about in release when the amount of players are multiplied then they come to forum and complain they want a different pvp system? Are you going to change everything then?
There are basically two types of pvp systems: 1. theme park like WoW 2. open world with player looting.
If you go with option 1 I think this game will be short lived because you have a lot of competitors, and WoW is still probably the best theme park tbh, will be hard to compete with them, the only thing you have over them is freshness of a new game and that won't last long. But even if that's the case, majority of players will want a theme park, so you will get a lot of players complaining if you don't go with option 1.
Option 2 is somewhat niche but at least there aren't so much competitors.
Are you a dev team doing this only for money or out of passion as well? Making a game you yourself would want to play? If it's not just about money then you shouldn't be asking if we want theme park or not. If it's just about money then i don't know what is better. Maybe option 1 is better short term and option 2 is better long term, but option 2 must in that case be chosen from the beginning not after the players who wanted option 1 leaves to go back to WoW.

It is easy how to deal, the players who want to play open PvP can just click on a button and activate it. The players who doesn't want to play open PvP just don't activate it. Or separated PvP Servers.

You didn't read my post so carefully because it's not just about pvp enabled or not. It's about death penalty as well. So what you really are asking for is 3 different types of servers. One for PvE with pvp toggle, one for PvP always enabled, one for PvP always enabled and also player looting. You will need a huuuuuuuuge player base to have so many different types of servers, also different servers for regions. So multiply those I said, for each region in the world. I don't think it will be possible to have that many servers, not enough players for that. It's also more fun when you play with different types of players it makes the game more sandbox. It's like what if every single player in the server is the same class, no one plays any other class.

And that is exactly, why the forum is here. So we can talk about solutions :) Open PvP is a MMO killer in my opinion, there are always gankers. Most of the people quit the game during the level phase if Open PvP is there without the option to turn it off. Most of the players are only interested in PvE, like me. But in this game, I will definitely get full into PvP too. So I like all the ideas.

Do you have statistics to back that up? I had the impression in wow that there were more pvp servers than pve server. I think most people want open pvp. I don't know what the big deal about it is anyway because you don't lose anything when you die, just an insignificant repair cost. But then there's the niche pvpers who also want to be able to loot the players they kill. But anyway my original post here was for the game devs, are they only thinking about profits or are they making a game they themselves would want to play? Because right now it sounds like it's all about the money and they just want to know what the most players want.

The developers are definitely not in it for the money. The developers are about creating a game that everyone can enjoy. Be it PvP, PvE, progress, mounts farming and so on. The developers have already played many MMO's themselves and want to do better what many MMO's do wrong or do not have.
Official statistics on the statements that Open PvP kills the genre I do not have, but in every MMO the majority does not like Open PvP, in every Facebook group you have this discussion, many simply reject it in principle.

The entire genre was created and started by Open World PvP. Stating that a majority of people don't like something when it literally formed the backbone of an entire genre is disingenuous at best. Stating social media content as the basis for a conclusion is like stating current news media for the basis of fact. Player friction is what makes an MMO an MMO. Blizzard and Sony have ripped the heart out of the genre and brainwashed young players into thinking their single player games are MMO's.
Remember folks...the devs have repeatedly stated they want to create an MMO to gets back to tradition and not the garbage we have today.
Please create two servers PvE and PvP Server, every player choose the better option.
I love PvP servers, i miss a lot a good the old good times of wow vanilla, where you do a mission and you look everything affraid of your enemys. I recommend to put some type of punish if a maximum level kill a low level player.
