We got amazing ideas for the equipment for the Ranger. Now let's get serious with the Specializations!
Ranged DPS is mandatory! What about Melee with one-hand weapons or two-hand weapons? Maybe a trap master? Hybrid melee and ranged, why not?
Everything is possible with this versatile class!

I think that pets are mandatory too. A true, versatile hybrid between range and melee is also a great idea.
But I don't like the traps idea.
For me: ranged, melee/ranged and ranged with pets. Maybe web can add another one like ranged/melee with pets.

Actually an idea from an Ranger with melee damage sounds interesting, although I think it should be applied to carrying small daggers or swords, as its damage will focus more at a distance, but it sounds great to be able to melee damage when you’re out of arrows/bullets.
I have 4 ideas of specs, some of them discussed at the Spanish Suggestion tab in discord. I thought maybe erase one spec but I think all of them are important.
Sniper:
The idea of the
sniper is a ranger who use no pet in exchange of damage increment and whose
principal advantage is good positioning without being seen because he has a
skills which the ranger knees on the ground increasing damage and attack range
in a %, while the ranger is kneeling he
can’t move, can’t CC the enemy (maybe to balance the spec he/she can soft CC)
and the character animation is smaller, so is more difficult to see him. The
idea of the spec is to kill the enemy before the enemy reach an attack range,
but if a player reaches the Sniper while tacking cover with environment the
first disadvantage of the sniper is that he must stand up to move or CC the
enemy, or maybe he/she will have to stand up to continue shooting (to balance
the class you can add maximum and minimum range while kneeling).
This way the sniper uses surprise elements without stealth.
Sniper should use rifles, which have higher range than bow and crossbows but
deal less damage. And will be interesting that every time you receive damage
you will have to search the environment for snipers.
Marksman:
Is a high range spec who use a lot of distancing resources
to shoot while keeping distance with the enemy target, but has less range than
the Sniper. Resources like multiple traps (when triggered: reduce movement
speed, stun, root, deal damage, etc.), push back, movement speed to move
backward while shooting arrows, jump backward and some resources to deal with
casters (silencing arrow, interrupt casting spells, etc.). Also, marksman have
a pet companion who attack the enemy and will be ideal if the pet have skills
(damage skills, CC, remove allies CC, etc.). Definitely it benefits on moving
while shooting arrows, maybe while moving it deals more damage or reduce damage
received while moving (in LOTRO it has increased evade chance while moving).
Marksman uses bows or crossbows.
Melee:
The idea of the melee ranger is a spec who plays with
distance, he has melee and ranged skills, and they use them depending on the
enemy class or situation. He/she has some kind of attack sequence like: launch
the weapon, jump to the target, remove the weapon from the body, put some
traps, then jump backwards, throw some knifes, etc. He/she is more like a
hybrid between ranged and melee with a pet companion.
Melee rangers use spears in each hand as weapons, also could
use a spear and a shield, and two handed spears (larger spear).
Bard:
The idea of the bard is a buffer and debuffer support that
also deal a respectable amount of ranged damage. I think Bard should have a pet
to have somebody to buff while solo playing, but also will be nice to be able
to play it without the pet for those who doesn’t like to play with pets. There
are many ways bard can deal damage, maybe he can use some kind of custom weapon
that is a merge between an instrument and a bow (so he throw arrows), or maybe
he can throw knives while playing an instrument, or maybe he use normal ranger weapons while singing and whistling, or maybe he can play an
instrument while the pet deals the damage and the bard command the pet with
music. It would be nice if bards can play musical notes at the resting zones,
so players can play music.
Bard should have offensive songs, defensive songs, movement
speed songs, cast speed songs and attack speed songs for buffing. And bard must
have some debuffing songs, for example, increase damage received, reduce damage
dealt, etc. All of them, buffs and debuffs, must be in AoE.
Rangers are typically survivalists and typically alone or in small groups. When i think of a Ranger I think of Tolkenien meaning of Ranger. Someone who forsakes much of civilisation to live a life out in the wilds. Pets are optional, traps are necessary, they take every advantage to defeat stronger, faster and more ferocious beasts and all kinds of creatures.
It makes absolute sense that Rangers are more than able to wield melee weapons competently, because sometimes there are human adversaries such as bandits out in the wilds. Perhaps a spear for the reach or a simple sword? They must be nimble after all to escape immediate danger and damage.
Greetings
DPS Multi-target: Master Archer. Powerful shooting skills with different types of damage: Bleeding, Fire and Acid. No pet access.
Support: Trapper. Poison and Bleed Damage shooting skills, combined with access to mass control traps and damage over time: Explosive Traps, Punji Trap, and Loop Traps. Possibility of having 1 pet.
DPS Melé Single-target: Lord of the Beasts. Combat style with 2 weapons, assisted by 1 or 2 pets.
See you
Surely there must be a ranged specialization, which uses bows or muskets or any other ranged weapon.
There should also be a mid-range specialization, she can use spear or a crossbow like "Cho-ko-nu".
It is finally a mid-range specialization that uses a dual wield, this specialization is the most agile of the three, for example, this specialization would use two small crossbows or pistols and would also use traps.
Tank trapper: 🛡️🕸️Heavy armored with skills specialized on traps and buffs, they always move the fight to zones were they have advantage for preserving and defending areas and your team, taunt and CC skills, basic nature defending and buffing spells.
Pet monster Tanker/buffer:🏃♂️🐃🐘 Sure you can tame some big wild monsters and allow them to tank or support for you, while you buff and heal your wild monster pet (with basic nature spells) and also you doing some damage.
Master tracker hybrid DPS (no pets)🐾: specialized on hunting and tracking, mixed of ranged and melee DPS skills
Beast master hybrid DPS:🏃♂️🏹🦖🐅🐺 Skills that involve coordinate attacks with your hidden and summoned pets.
I think about the hybrid/melee ranger DPS as a Witcher like Geralt of Rivia, an expert with light swords (weapons) , fighter in leather/mail with few very basic magic spells, like axia sign that he uses to calm Roach (his horse) and to hypnotize weak minds, and Yrden sign worked like a immobilizing electric trap spell in the 2nd game, and physical traps, weapon oils, poisons to buff your weapons and exploit your enemies weaknesses, potions to buff your self to resist the adverse effects from your enemies. (Damn those freezing potions from the Witcher 3 were my favorites, they looked like the Witcher 2 trailer).
I will say it again, Rangers are fighters with a Nature affinity, masters of survival and hunt, and protecting territories, not just archers.
Hunting involves knowing yourself and studying your enemies/preys and taking advantage of that. (Not just hitting things with a bow).
A Ranger protecting involves knowing his land, his territory to take advantage of it.
