Since it has never been discussed in the forums and as I am aware there is no confirmation on what pet/companion system there will be and will there be any at all. Drinking my coffee this morning I was thinking of something I've never seen before ( it may exist in some other games but I personally haven't seen such system) so basically the pet/companion system which I will call for short just system for now on has something like a lore into it. I will start from afar and go through all the points I have yet covered in my head.
The system is gonna be race specified. What I mean is that every different race is gonna have a unique pet/companion which will be unlocked with not so easy quest which will contain several parts and different task in the quests like kill 12 ot these, kill their leader. Bring 15 of these. Combine 1 of these 2 of these and 3 of these to get this which you have to combine with the heart of "mini boss name" and teeth of "another mini boss name" to create "relic name" and give it to "quest giver name" so he can give "last quest" in which you have to tame your pet/companion.
Back to the main point.
Every different race is gonna have different pet.
Human have their dog pet since it's the best partner of the man.
Orcs gonna have an unevolved bearan or simply a battle bear. Which they have stolen from a bearan village. Therefore Bearans simply don't like or better hate orcs for their brutality in stealing young bear kids to make them their slaves.
Bearans would have gorillas. It seems weird at first view but since bearans are nature/forest creatures something that lives in the forest should accompany them and what is better than a muscular gorilla ready to crash some enemy spines?
Undeads would have their zombie dogs. Since undeads are rised from the dead humans they could never haunt the living land without their best pals.
High elves would have their magic wyrms. Tiny lil snake-dragons with tiny lil wings glowing in blue or light orange sparkling off some pure harmless magic.
Dwarves Are going to have wolves as their pet. That just adds up don't you think? Dwarves usually live in the cold areas therefore they need (just like the humans ) their best pal - but this time not a dog but the scary saber-tooth wolves!
Infernal demons (since they're demons) are going to raise their demon siblings from Hell and bring them to the living land to frighten up the world
Minotaurs gonna have their cool looking hard armored bulls! Their ancestors! Infused with the power of the old gods with hard and sharp horns ready to impale every enemy that threatens their master, the Minotaur!
All these pets gonna be obtained at lvl 15 ( i think its ok as level also I think mounts should be somewhere between lvl 20-25 because walking long distances seems boring )
Before you say - okay but you said they are gonna be unique and there are like 8 pet types?-let me stop you here. There are gonna be 2 more quests at lvl 35 and 50. With those quests you are gonna dramatically upgrade your pet. At lvl 35 you have to choose between 2 variations of your current pet - visual option and skill changing - as an example the infernal demons gonna change their "raised hellbound"(as I called it) to any of the 2 different options - dark hellbound or light hellbound. With the first quest you are not just making your pet look different but you also make it have have different skills (, for the 2 different variations of the pet there are gonna be 2 different skill variations as well)
And next at lvl 50 the last pet quest is gonna give you 3 different options on how your pet gonna look (which would be different if you chose back then 1st or 2nd option) ( light hellbound would have 3 different options and dark hellbound would have 3 different options)
With 3x3 different skill sets.
This makes 48 different types of visual different pets.
And if my math is not lying to me (which I highly doubt) every pet will have 9 overall skill sets (1 starting which will be the same for every race pet at lvl 15 ) and 8 which you can choose depending on your desires.( Which will also be the same compared to other race pets from the same category - starting quest (skills)- 2nd quest 2 options(skills) 3rd quest 3 options (skills)
I am thinking the pets shouldn't be targetable nor destroyable, but they are gonna provide you with some back up attacks ( not necessarily much powerful) and some passive skills for you. They could have different attacks which you can use at different times depending on the situation. Like stun, slow,DoT, heal and much more.
Of course they can be renamed because after all they are all YOUR pets.
I don't think i missed something but since I am thinking about this all day at work I might've really missed something of my idea. ( which i really hope /atleast some of it/ sees a white day)

Shock :)
P.S. I know this is really long to read but if we were able to put pictures in the forum threads I would put some old styled 9gag potato just for you guys!
P.S.S. to Armegon - make it possible to add pictures in the forum posts.

Last edited: 2021-02-23 12:12:21I just checked the whole idea. Shock you are giving well explained and amazing ideas. In addition to your idea I’ve been thinking about those skills (dot, stun, slow and other) and they could be added into a smaller pet talent system or something like that where you can make different combos of pet spells. This way the PvP will get even more interesting due to the amount of all combos possible.

Also every quest could be giving some skill points which you can spend in your pet skill tree or maybe when you level up and your pet level up (that I forgot to add in the text - pets levels are scaled with your character level and do not disturb your progress i mean they don't have unique level therefore experience bar separated from your character's). But my idea for the quests was with each quest lvl 35 and 50 to have different variations of skill trees you can unlock and work only for them with the other skill points you just mentioned.
Again 2 brains are better than 1 lol.

I am not so sure this idea will be good PvP and balance wise. It takes out the originality from some of the classes for example Ranger and Necromancer who will have some sort of minions and pets while doing PvP or PvE. The idea for an untargetable pet who can even CC will be really broken. There should be some kind of counter play mechanic that will depend on skill and not depend on if my pet has a stun and yours doesn't or my stun is off cooldown etc etc. The idea sounds sort of fun, but it's too Pokemonish for me and it will abolish a little player skill due to the fact that you can get healed, have a free stun on a target, do damage and on top of that there is no counter play to this ? Don't get me wrong your idea could work if it's balanced a lot more, but like I said for me personally I don't seem to like it. Also the class identity will be at stake like I said at the start.

It could be just pve pet i was just suggesting some stuff. Also nothing is yet determined since Armegon haven't said his opinion in the idea. Of course it needs a lot of polishing but it can become something really good and unique.

Hello Shocki,
I have read your topic post and I like your ideas.
However if the system is about to be created in the way you describe it it will cause nightmare in PvP and in PvE. Pets system should be class unique not given to all races, yet you gave some good ideas which for sure we will see ingame.
Kind regards,
Armegon.

Thanks for the reply Armegon. I really appreciate to hear that you like some of my ideas. When you say "class unique" which classes will you give pets then?

I do appreciate the nice ideas and after all that is the point of this project. For now we have Ranger and Necromancer in mind.

This will be too much OP for some classes and will give us hell to balance the game.

Greetings,
I agree. I would avoid giving pets abilities that would impact combat. This creates a balancing issues and a meta of pets to where everyone would be running around with the same pets essentially.
My suggestion would be to give pets flavor by adding in quality of life abilities that do not affect combat. Here is an example:
Parrot - While summoned, your parrot keeps you supplied with a half eaten and stale cracker which he is willing to share with you every 2 minutes, restoring 60 percent of your health over 10 seconds while out of combat.
Bearan Cub - While summoned, your Cub playfully bites your mounts back feet, increasing mount speed by 5%
With love,
Joda
